My kettle has lots of white bits inside!

In some hard water areas the action of boiling water can create deposits of lime scale (calcium) around the inner surface of the kettle. This lime scale can corrode open elements, create bad tasting water and bits of lime scale can break away.

Your kettle should be regularly cleaned with a de-scaler or a solution of 10% white vinegar. This should not be drunk, but disposed and then the kettle boiled several times to remove excess before boiling any drinking water.
